From Stein to Steinway –
300 years of the piano

Kenneth Hamilton piano

Professor Kenneth Hamilton kicks off the 2017 Festival with an insightful and enthralling guide to the development of the piano. A leading academic, performer, and regular on BBC Radio 3 and 4, Kenneth has shared his passion for authentic performance practice across the globe.

In this lunchtime session he presents the piano collection at the University of Birmingham in a relaxed lecture-recital. Hear him play and discuss the Steinway Concert Grand piano, an 1851 piano made by Erard, the fortepiano, harpsichord, and clavichord, in his own inimitable style.
